JAZZ AN AMERICAN ART FORM
When my daughter was in 3rd grade, I did a performance at her school with trumpeter Gilbert Castellanos, guitarist Bob Boss, and drummer Richard Sellers. What I felt - sharing jazz with kids - is it inspired me to find a way to share the music in an educational format. I set out to create a program that educated students on the history of jazz, improvisation, and the cultural contributions of jazz. This was the impetus of what was to became Jazz An American Art Form.
Jazz An American Art is a program that reaches 8,000 to 10,000 students annually in under-served San Diego schools. Created 12 years ago this program was formed to educate students.
